Yang's Favourite Thing #16 - Yang's Fourth Leaf Theory
~ As I delved deeper into the true meaning of finding a four-leaf Creeping wood sorrel on this tiny red dot ...
... I stopped searching, and began nurturing. ~
You might have heard of Murphy's Law, and perhaps the Black Swan Theory.
But I bet you hadn't heard of Yang's Fourth Leaf Theory. Here's how it goes:
As you nourish yourself with Love, you'll flourish that fourth leaf in you.
The theory begins...
Yep we don't have clover plants in Singapore but do you remember we have Creeping wood sorrel everywhere? Let's imagine a vast, verdant field of Creeping wood sorrel, representing each and every one of us. Most have three leaves, while an unnoticeable minority have four.

Yep we don't have clover plants in Singapore but do you remember we have Creeping wood sorrel everywhere? Let's imagine a vast, verdant field of Creeping wood sorrel, representing each and every one of us. Most have three leaves, while an unnoticeable minority have four.
What does each of the three "lovely" leaves represent?
The tradition of a four-leaf clover says that the first leaf represents Faith, the second Hope and the third Love. These 3 words are simply made up of 4 or 5 letters but represent big concepts that aren't easy to grasp. As I'm learning to Love myself, I realised Faith and Hope crept along quietly like by-products. I can't define clearly to you what they meant, but somehow I felt them restored in me, along with Love. So I'll like to say: Love comes first.
And isn't the fourth leaf suppose to represent Luck?
Supposedly, so Yang's theory comes in. Yang strongly believes that every being is special in his or her own way. That special endowment inside each of us manifests in the form of a fourth leaf.

While the four-leaf Creeping wood sorrel are the rarer ones who have identified their Dharma (life's purpose) and unleashed their unique potential, the three-leafers are oblivious or perhaps unsure of their capabilities to grow a fourth leaf.
So for Yang's Fourth Leaf Theory to materialise?
You'll need to first feed yourself with Love! Faith and Hope will tag along naturally, and a fourth leaf, that special endowment, will gradually flourish in you.
Does life goals end when a three-leafer grows to become a four-leaf creeping wood sorrel?
Certainly not. It is only after you have unveiled your fourth leaf, then you could delve deeper to nurture that fifth, sixth or even the seventh leaf in you!
The field gets "greener" when each of us liberates our individual special endowment(s) represented by the fourth leaf and more. There's no need to travel elsewhere, away from home, to find a "greener" patch anymore.

~ In memory of Mr Lee Kuan Yew (1923 - 2015) and his devotion towards meritocracy, and a clean & green Singapore.
Our froggie has nurtured its fourth leaf and brought about a clean and green city. I believe it will continue to cultivate a richer Creeping wood sorrel and elevate Singapore to greater heights. ~

♪I'm Looking Over a Four-leaf Clover, Art Mooney♪
Lyrics by Mort Dixon, music by Harry Woods
I'm looking over a four-leaf clover
I overlooked before
One leaf is sunshine, the second is rain
Third is the roses that grow in the lane
No need explaining
The one remaining is somebody I adore
I'm looking over a four-leaf clover
I overlooked before
